Wednesday Reflection

Happy Wednesday and hopefully beautiful blue skies for you today.
As we hit the midpoint of the week, on a slow week before the holiday my natural inclination is to focus on maximizing the holiday week. I think it’s the natural inclination for many of us.
Make sure we make max revenue on the holiday week.
As one General Manager I previously consulted for used to like to say,
‘…we need to make hay while the sun is shining.’
And yes, we need to maximize and ensure great production over those high demand dates, but just like those low demand dates where there’s not much to find, we don’t want to get stuck over focused on a high period any more than a low period.
Once that week is over, what do we have left? Have we prepared? Do we have nice carry over length of stay to prevent the house from emptying?
Some these questions including the last one impact what might be a slower or more typical demand week but even require a different way of viewing your higher demand period to impact that slower or more typical demand period.
Our world of revenue is the big picture, and our time is perishable just like our product. It’s imperative we are as efficient overseeing our demand as it is that we are thorough overviewing it. It is as important to realize when there’s nothing left to find or tweak, as it is to realize when something was missed.
Basically my reflection today, is a reminder of over focus or the ‘tunnel-vision’ on a particular set of dates, time period, or even task can be as detrimental as underfocus. Take a moment to reconsider how you generally spread your time? Is it as efficient as it could be? We all could use a moment to reset our approach and increase efficiency, today is mine, how about you?
